Molecular Testing

Molecular Testing: A cellular-level look at your cancer.

What is Molecular Testing for Cancer?

Molecular testing for cancer is like investigating tiny clues in our cells to find out more about the sickness. It helps doctors look closely at our genetic material (like DNA or RNA) to spot changes linked with cancer. This helps them know more about the cancer, how it might grow, and what treatments could work best.

Why Is Molecular Testing Important for Cancer Patients?

It’s like having a special map just for you. Molecular testing helps doctors create a special plan for each person’s cancer. By looking at the tiny details in our cells, doctors can find out which treatments might work best and cause fewer problems.

Different Types of Molecular Testing in Cancer:

What is a Biomarker?

A biomarker is like a signpost in the body. It’s a special thing doctors can measure, like blood pressure or blood sugar. In cancer, biomarkers help doctors figure out what kind of cancer someone has and sometimes even how well cancer responds to treatment.

How will I be tested?

To do the test, doctors can take a tiny bit of blood, spit, or a piece of tissue from a biopsy you had before.

Does NECS complete the testing?

No. Your samples will go to special lab for the testing. They’re like the detectives who help figure out the best plan for you.

Will my insurance cover this testing?

Most often your insurance company will pay for the testing, but they might send you a paper called an Explanation of Benefits. It’s not a bill, just a paper that explains what the testing costs. Don’t worry, there are Patient Assistance programs to help pay for it if you need.

What if I don’t have Insurance?

There are still ways to get help. The lab companies have programs to help people without insurance. Our Patient Advocates can help you apply for them.
